MERCUREY 1ER CRU CLOS DES MONTAIGUS

Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir

ABV: 13.5% Vintage: 2020

Established in Rully (Côte Chalonaise) by Albert Sounit in 1945, the Maison has been Danish-owned since 1993.

The property includes 16 hectares of vines, and the producer buys grapes from a further 10ha to produce still and sparkling wines.

This 1er Cru Montaigus comes from 1.6ha of vines on stony limestone-clay soils with a southeast exposure. Quite deep ruby in colour, the wine has loganberry, black plum and wild strawberry fruit with toasty oak overlay.The full-bodied palate is sweet-fruited

with the fruit and oak flavours nicely balanced by fresh acidity and dense tannins. The mouthwatering finish suggests that this is a wine for a rich dish such as game with wild rice.

Bright rather dark garnet with a purple hue. Pure and fragrant with ripe plum, cherry and wild berries with mild spices, fine oak and plenty of volume on the palate, dense and silky wirth a fine layer of freshness. Well built with silky and savoury fruit leading to a long and vigorous finish.

Bright straw colour with a green hue. Generous nose, some floral and grapey hints with fresh stonefruit and mild oak. Generous palate combining rather ripe fruit and good volume with a fresh backbone, discreet young oak and a fine length.

Nez pâtissier, senteurs de crème vanille, boisé poudré.

La bouche dévoile un chardonnay dense, précis, un brin luxueux sur l’élevage mais orienté vers un bel équilibre. Vigne de 60 ans.

Le nez dévoile un pinot de grande facture, mûr et concentré, assorti d’un boisé luxueux qui lui va très bien. La bouche est réglissée, très pure, fraîche et charnue, digne d’un Premier Cru, ambitieux mais convaincant. Vin de garde issu de vignes de 70 ans et d’une sélection de trois fûts.

Pinot mûr et extrait : fruits noirs confiturés, bois toasté. La bouche est serrée, la trame marquée par son élevage. Ce vin demande du temps pour se déployer mais il est déjà prometteur.
